Jon Watts, the rising filmmaker behind the recent MCU Spider-Man films starring Tom Holland as the iconic hero, will be directing Brad Pitt and George Clooney in an upcoming thriller for Apple TV Plus.
The thriller, according to Deadline, will follow two lone-wolf fixers assigned to the same job. The film is believed to have an expensive budget similar to recent projects from Apple TV Plus. Martin Scorsese’s upcoming Killers of the Flower Moon, which stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro, has an estimated budget of $200 million. Meanwhile, Avengers: Endgame directors Joe and Anthony Russo are helming the upcoming action thriller film The Gray Man, which will be Netflix’s most expensive film to date.
Other than the large-scale productions Apple TV Plus is providing for their slated films, the talent involved is another impressive feat. From the skilled filmmakers to the star-studded casts, Apple TV Plus has been gradually becoming one of the top streaming services available for consumers. The platform is also building momentum off of its recent success with the hit Emmy-winning series Ted Lasso. Adding names like Pitt, Clooney, and Watts to their lineup, the expanding platform is showing no signs of slowing down.
After collaborating on Steven Soderbergh’s successful Ocean’s series, Pitt is coming off of an Oscar win for director Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and is now working with La La Land’s Damien Chazelle on his upcoming feature Babylon, after wrapping filming on Deadpool 2 director David Leitch’s next action thriller, Bullet Train. Meanwhile, Clooney’s next feature starring Ben Affleck, The Tender Bar, is looking to have a promising premiere this coming December.
Watts will also obtain much attention this December, as his upcoming Spider-Man: No Way Home is shaping up to push the MCU in new and exciting directions. The upcoming superhero film has already broken records, becoming the most viewed trailer in 24 hours. His last two films, Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: Far From Home both received critical acclaim. With these three great talents on board, the untitled thriller will surely continue Apple TV Plus’ hot streak.
