The teases continues to grow for Call of Duty’s upcoming Die Hard crossover with its latest teaser trailer, with the mention of 80s action heroes joining a slew of the franchise’s titles next week. In this trailer, fans are given a true indication that John McClane will be joining in some shape or form.
The teaser trailer begins with the camera panning over the ground, covered with broken glass. As the camera reaches a certain point, a lone silver Zippo lighter lies on the ground, still burning. This is most definitely a call back to the scene in Die Hard in which McClane is climbing through the ventilation system of Nakatomi Plaza and says the famous line,
As the camera moves on to the next scene, it pans over a large duffel bag seemingly filled with C-4 explosives. This is most likely a call to the use of C-4 to blow up the roof of Nakatomi Plaza. In the movie, the roof does explode, but McClane survives while Hans Gruber, the main villain, falls to his death.
In the final piece of the trailer, the camera pans up a wooden pallet to show a handgun and a police radio, undoubtedly harking back to the radio and handgun that John McClane carries around and utilizes throughout the events of Die Hard. The phrasing that Call of Duty is using, is displayed throughout the teaser, which could be tied to the communication between the police and McClane in the movie.
Call of Duty has been teasing the inclusion of John McClane in a series of different pieces of marketing, such as the launch of a website related to Nakatomi Plaza. While McClane has not specifically been mentioned, the latest teaser definitely sets the stage for him to crash on the scene. Rumors have also included John Rambo being included, and given the fact that Call of Duty is marketing this event as 80s action heroes joining, that seems likely.
The 80s action heroes event begins May 20 in Call of Duty: Warzone, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, and Call of Duty Mobile. With all the imagery being related to Die Hard, players expect John McClane to join the cast right away, but confirmation is still yet to be confirmed. Players will have to wait and see who is included during this event and when they will be released.
Call of Duty: Warzone is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S
