Toy Story fans are going to get a whole new look at Buzz Lightyear before he joined Woody’s gang, due to this new trailer published by Pixar.
Here is the trailer:
The film, starring Chris Evans (Captain America star), will be released on June 17 and is advertised as a “sci-fi action-adventure” that will tell “the true plotline of Buzz Lightyear—the hero who inspired the toy.”
Buzz blasts off on a new adventure in the clip, saying the now-iconic statement “To infinity and beyond” with his colleague.
However, things don’t go as planned when Buzz returns to see his colleague and discovers he’s been gone for more than 60 years. To be accurate, 62 years, seven months, and five days.
Buzz has been transported into the future and is now charged with combating robots as well as his infamous archenemy Emperor Zurg.
Buzz was first voiced by Tim Allen in the original Toy Story film almost three decades ago, and while he did reprise the role for the three sequels, Evans has since taken over the role.
“The phrase ‘a dream come true’ gets thrown about a lot, but I’ve never meant it more in my life,” the actor said of the project, according to Disney.
Following the announcement of Evans’ involvement, the actor turned to Instagram to assure fans that “no one could ever touch” Allen’s portrayal of the character.
Evans described the movie as “special,” stating: “I can’t even put my excitement into words. I smile every time I think about it.”
Angus MacLane, who directed the 2016 picture Finding Dory, is credited as a “veteran Pixar animator.”
