Chris Pine is speaking out about the viral incident at the Venice International Film Festival when many people claim to have seen Harry Styles spit on him.

A representative for Pine, 42, responds to rumors of a fight between him and his Don’t Worry, Darling co-star, 28, in a statement. This absurd story is the consequence of a weird web illusion that is obviously deceptive and encourages irrational conjecture. It is a pure fabrication.

“Just to be clear, Harry Styles did not spit on Chris Pine,” the rep continues. “There is nothing but respect between these two men and any suggestion otherwise is a blatant attempt to create drama that simply does not exist.”

Styles’ spokesperson chose not to respond.

The incident happened on Monday at the Don’t Worry Darling premiere in Venice, Italy. Following the event, a video showing Styles taking a seat next to Pine went viral online. It should be noted that Pine is sitting to the left of Olivia Wilde, the film’s director, and Styles’ girlfriend.

Before Pine swiftly glances down and stops clapping, the “Watermelon Sugar” singer moves his lips as he knelt down to take his seat, which some people saw to be an acknowledgment that he simply spit.

Pine chuckles and shakes his head a little more after that, pulling his sunglasses from between his knees while still keeping an amused expression.

As the video gained popularity, there was a discussion online over what exactly happened. He had definitely spit on Chris Pine was written next to a GIF that one Twitter user posted from the video.

Others immediately rushed to Styles’ defense, providing a different explanation for what occurred. “Chris pine just wondered where his sunglasses were after the applause,” Twitter user @cinemazietgeist wrote of her interpretation of the footage.

“And he zoned out (likes he’s been doing all day) and realised it’s in his lap. So I am sorry to say harry styles did not spit on him,” the latter user added.

Later, the same person posted a slower-motion video of the incident with the caption, “And this vid shows nothing left his mouth.”

Don’t Worry Darling stars Florence Pugh and Harry Styles as Jack and Alice, a young couple residing in the lovely 1950s company town of Victory, California. Alice becomes fixated on the subject of her husband’s line of work as the lovely neighborhood they live in starts to show signs of fissures.

The movie Don’t Worry Darling premieres on September 23.
