Developed by Atlassian, Confluence is a collaboration software that was initially released in 2004 and written in Java. That said, the company developed a Companion app that allowed users to edit their files among other things.
However, they recently removed the Companion app from Confluence Cloud. The aforementioned change is now making it impossible for Confluence Cloud users to edit files.
But many missed out on the announcement and were confused and wondering if the Companion app was bugged. Here are some reports from Confluence users who are unable to edit attachments.
But the announcement also clarified that the developers will introduce the ability to replace files from the Media Viewer itself in the near future. They also shared a couple of ways in case you want to edit files on the platform.
While there are a number of alternatives to Confluence Cloud, we recommend looking at solutions such as Nuclino, SharePoint, Zoho Wikim, Basecamp, and GitBook.
We hope Atlassian takes into consideration user feedback since many organizations are still dependent on the Companion app and provide an alternative as soon as possible.
As always, we will be keeping an eye out for more information and update this space as and when required, so stay tuned.
