Since 1984, The Criterion Collection has been a pioneer in the high-end home video industry. They have published hundreds of films on laserdisc, DVD, Blu-ray, and 4K throughout those 35+ years, encompassing every imaginable genre, style, and aspect of world cinema. However, Criterion has never before distributed a Disney or Pixar film. The first will be this fall’s 4K release of WALL-E, one of Pixar’s most cherished movies, which tells the tale of a small robot tasked with cleaning up the wreckage of a dystopian Earth that has been abandoned. Director Andrew Stanton oversaw and approved the creation of the new Criterion edition of Wall-E, which includes a number of bonus materials.

WALL-E isn’t exactly new to home video formats; if you’re a subscription to Disney+, you can view it right now. However, Criterion’s discs stand out from the competition. More importantly, the fact that Disney and Pixar are now working with Criterion opens the door to many more potential Criterion releases of Disney classics, complete with the kinds of in-depth special features and extras that are typically unavailable on streaming services or most standard home video releases. The potential there is incredibly intriguing. On November 22, WALL-Criterion E’s Collection 4K UHD edition will become available.
