Since Cyberpunk 2077 received its recent overhaul, it’s safe to say that the game feels better than ever before as the update revitalizes almost every aspect of Night City. The list of said fixes includes tweaks to AI behavior and skill balance, adding additional elements to the world, and overhauling the driving mechanics. However, although Cyberpunk 2077’s massive update added many new features, it also removed and capped quite a number too, including a limit on the double jump height. Now, one Reddit user has set out to break this limit by reaching areas of Night City that are out of bounds.
For the uninitiated, Cyberpunk 2077’s protagonist can dabble with cybernetic enhancements. Some of these augmentations take the form of physical body integrated weaponry, such as the iconic Mantis Blades or Gorilla Arms, while others enhance their natural athletic capabilities. Speaking of which, several notable cyber-upgrades affect the player’s leap altitude. For example, installing Reinforced Tendons will allow the player to jump a second time when already in the air, while Fortified Ankles will let players charge up their jump to reach great vertical heights.
Despite this, Polish developer CD Projekt Red has nerfed and revised the peaks to which players can soar with said upgrades in contemporary updates, meaning that these augmentations are not as aerial as they used to be back when the game was released. With that said, if there is a will, there is a way, so Reddit user root_b33r figured out a foolproof workaround to the patch. The brief 44-second video starts with the player facing one of Night City’s many towering skyscrapers. However, instead of strolling past, they proceed to run face-first into its edged concrete walls and erupt into a frenzy of erratic jumping.
This may appear to be one of the most bizarre sights in Cyberpunk 2077, but it is undoubtedly effective as root_b33r scales the enormous tower in just a matter of seconds. Making it to roughly the thirteenth floor, root_b33r uses the Reinforced Tendons to jump across the street divide and safely land on the opposing structure. Here, players can phase through a collision less wall and roam around the invisible underworld of Night City. That is, of course, if the player does not take one misstep and plummet into the eventual descending darkness that looms below the map, waiting to consume them.
In summary, it’s clear that players of Cyberpunk 2077 are easily among the most innovative fans in the modern gaming landscape. With that being the case, CD Projekt Red has to be on the ball and one step ahead if it truly wants to thwart players from breaking the game and entering Cyberpunk’s version of the Phantom Zone dimension.
Cyberpunk 2077 is available for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
