According to people who attended the show and footage circulating on social media, comedian Dave Chappelle was assaulted on stage during his set at the Hollywood Bowl on Tuesday night.
On Tuesday evening, several event attendees posted videos of the incident, which appeared to show Chappelle on stage performing when a man to his right rushes at him and tackles him to the floor. Security is then seen dragging the man away.
It comes a month after Will Smith slapped comedian Chris Rock at the Oscars, for which he was banned from the event for 10 years.
In an email statement to Reuters, a representative for the Hollywood Bowl stated that the incident was under “active investigation” and that they were unable to comment further.
The Los Angeles Police Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Reuters. A spokesperson for Chappelle could not be reached for comment right away.
