Dave Chappelle is an American stand up comedian and actor. He rose to fame for his satirical comedy sketch series Chappelle’s Show . Till date he has bagged many awards such as Emmy Awards and three Grammy Awards .
Recently he has done The Closer for Netflix and it doesn’t went the way he want.
It was surrounded by a lot of controversies and allegations were made that there were many transphobic remarks. It was condemned by the neitizens and he was trolled heavily on social media.
Dave Chappelle was graduated from Duke Ellington School of the Arts, in Washington D.C and the new performing arts theatre at his old high school was to be named after him but after the backlash from the students he decided not to have that.
It was reported that he received a cold welcome at the venue and addressed the around 600 students who were present at the venue .
“No matter what they say about The Closer, it is still [one of the] most-watched specials on Netflix,” adding that it was a “masterpiece.” Chappelle described himself as “maybe a once in a lifetime talent.” Speaking to the student backlash, Chappelle said “these kids didn’t understand that they were instruments of artistic oppression.”
He added, “The more you say I can’t say something, the more urgent it is for me to say it.”
Instead of featuring his name, Chappelle said that the venue will be called as The Theatre for Artistic Freedom and Expression.
