In Deathloop, you are trapped in a mysterious time loop, and your only way out is to kill eight key targets before the day resets in order to break the cycle.

Initially released for PC and PlayStation, it is now available on Xbox Series X|S as well as Xbox Game Pass.

Deathloop ‘soft lock’ issue

Having said that, presently many Deathloop players are reporting a ‘soft lock’ bug where the game is stuck on the pause menu (1,2,3,4,5,6,7).

According to players, if they enter the menu in the middle of a mission, for example, to read a note or check their progress in a mission, it doesn’t close entirely for them.

Instead, it partially collapses, and players get stuck in the game’s menu. In order to get out of this situation, they have to forcefully and inconveniently close the game.

This issue results in Deathloop players losing their entire progress and items gained up to the point of their last save, and they have to restart the whole mission.

This ‘soft lock’ bug when exploring the in-game menu in Deathloop has been recurring for over a year (1,2,3).

Apparently, Deathloop developers have claimed on multiple occasions that the bug has been resolved. Even the latest patch notes go back to claim that they have fixed this issue.

However, reports about the problem continue to surface even after this patch.

Sadly, there is no workaround that can help Deathloop players avoid losing progress when this bug appears. But as always, we will be updating this space as and when we come across more information so stay tuned.
